Not had much experience at all with the company in the way of guitar but I use Sampletank all the time. Actually been doing way more keyboarding, mostly with my Minilab and iPad(Tabletop, Sampletank, iMini, and iMS-20).Īnyway I am very interested in the IKM A4 as well but from what I can tell you get a very limited pallet at first then it's a la carte from there. So I'll not be gigging anytime soon and home/computer based sound generation is my main focus at this point. My life has drastically changed as last month we added a new member to our family. Still waiting on midi to be added before I plunge into the Desktop version. IMO a nice, compact, bus powered interface for a good price.I will check on what I use as far as buffers. Not a game changing device and, as Arjun said, not much different in functionality than iRig HD2. So you could just have a pedal or few in BIAS, turning off the amp and cab sims, and use this as a pedal(or multiple pedals) in your normal pedal chain. just like using it as a pedal in your chain. this has a 1/4 output that can go to your amp. The auto input gain is also nice and seems to get the input level right.Īlso. You could probably get a similar effect adding some eq or boost to the fx chain in BIAS, but its nice and easy to access this way nonetheless. as mentioned earlier they are subtle but give a nice color to the tone, I find myself leaving 1 or 2 on. The three "Tone" presets are a nice addition. (Jogg was only by computer or phone if the phone was also connected to power). One huge benefit over the Jogg(but same as iRig HD2) is that its bus powered by my iPhone even if the phone is not connected to power. I was using a Hotone Jogg, which I like, but figured I'd give this a shot. At this point, unless you need to record the True Tone of your guitar, I believe sound quality will not be an issue on any of the options available in the markets at this price range. However, hard to find any difference between sound from the iRig HD2 interface I replaced this with.
I’ll add some thoughts about additional functionality with Bias FX. It retains whichever model you select before power off. Not a huge game changer except if you wanted to record direct / clean tones. Three tones provide a bit of Color to the input signal. The clip indicator would have been sufficient, though I rely on the input VU to monitor the signal for that. The three indicator lights show clip (always on), direct signal (only on when direct blend is >0), tone (only on when tone model is set).It does however flex a bit and I wonder if it’s easy to damage if I wanted to keep it on the floor when on stage. Big knob is nice and is of the digital encoder type with a push button to switch functionality. Not sure if it’s meant to be removed but mine looks it’s a well worn device after a week of use Front panel also has an extremely soft plastic cover which will scratch at the lightest rub.
There are VU meters for input and output which are also extremely useful. I found the quick access to input and output especially useful. Pushing the knob toggles between Input Gain, Direct monitoring blend, Tone type (preamp model) and Output gain.
